Mobile App Design

A phone is not a small website

Designing for mobile is not shrinking a desktop layout. A phone has its own rules. The thumb reaches only so far. The screen shows one thing at a time. The user is distracted, moving, glancing. A design that ignores this fights the device.

We design for the phone as its own surface. The patterns people already know from the apps they use every day. The gestures, the navigation, the tap targets sized for a thumb on the move. The result feels native, because it follows the conventions the platform trained your users to expect.

We respect the platform

iOS and Android are not the same place. Each has its own conventions, its own components, its own sense of how an app should behave.

We design to each platform’s standards rather than forcing one look onto both. An iOS app feels like iOS. An Android app feels like Android. Users notice when an app fights the platform, even if they cannot name what feels off. Following the conventions removes that friction and makes the app feel like it belongs.

System, not screens

A pile of pretty screens is not an app design. The screens have to connect.

We build a system. Reusable components, a consistent type and color scale, defined states for every interactive element. Loading, empty, error, success, the states most designs skip and most users hit. A real app spends half its life in those states, so we design them on purpose instead of leaving them to chance.

The system scales past launch. When you add a feature in six months, the components are already there. The app grows without drifting into inconsistency.

Flows, not just layouts

An app is a sequence of actions, not a gallery of views.

We design the flows. The path from opening the app to completing the task. The onboarding that decides whether someone sticks. The handoffs between screens, where users get lost if the design is sloppy. We map the journey through the app and design each step to move the user forward with as little friction as the task allows.

A clean flow feels effortless to the user and invisible by design. That invisibility is the work.

Prototypes the team can build from

A static mockup leaves too much to interpretation. How does this transition feel? What happens on a tap? How does the screen respond to a slow connection?

We deliver prototypes that answer those questions. The dev team sees the motion, the states, and the behavior, not just the static layout. They build from a clear reference instead of guessing, which means fewer surprises in development and an app that ships closer to the design.

Because the same team often carries the work into Development, the prototype and the build stay tightly connected. The designer is in the room when the screens come to life.

How this connects

Mobile design draws on the brand system from your identity work, so the app matches the rest of the brand. It draws on positioning and research from Strategy, so the flows serve the buyer and the job they came to do.

It feeds Development, which builds the app for the stores, with analytics and crash reporting in from day one. Design and build move as one effort, not a handoff between vendors.

The result

An app that feels native, behaves like users expect, and ships close to the design. The flows move people forward, the states are handled, and the system scales as you add features. A mobile product that earns its place on the home screen instead of getting deleted in a week.
